What the Red Baron Never Knew | History | Air & Space Magazine

Manfred Von Richtofen in early 1918 in his Albatross Biplane.

Great read and a very informative article from the Air and Space Museum.  The author uses the Red Baron's name as an exciting representation of an entire breed of pilots that flew, fought and died during the Great War.  They were the pioneers of early fighter aircraft and dogfight tactics.  This article describes how aviators and engineers misunderstood some basic aerodynamics and engineering that are taken for granted today.   Air Combat San Diego uses refined Great Lakes Biplane with the modern engineering methods and designs  to produce a superior yet similiar biplane aircraft that the Red Baron and Eddie Rickenbacker would enjoy.
